In Honor and Celebration of our Veterans

For 80 years Top of the Mark has been a destination for military professionals and veterans from around the country. When the United States entered WWII in 1941, the 19th floor lounge was where Pacific-bound servicemen would meet to toast the Golden Gate Bridge before shipping out, believing it was good luck and would bring them home safely. Today, it continues to be visited by active and retired servicemen and women as well as their families who come to raise a glass, share memories, and continue to honor the history of the space. In observance of Veterans Day weekend, Top of the Mark is pleased to offer the following to veterans from Saturday, November 9 through Monday, November 11.

• Saturday through Monday enjoy 20% off total check*, guaranteed table reservations and waived cover fee. Enjoy a menu of small bites alongside a full cocktail, beer and wine list. Live entertainment is offered on Saturday evening starting at 9:00pm. Discount available for parties up to four.
• 10% off Sunday Champagne Brunch on November 10* – a longtime tradition at Top of the Mark, the Sunday brunch brings together delicious food and drink with the near 360-degree views of the San Francisco Bay as the backdrop. Veterans are offered brunch for $89, available for parties up to four people. (Children ages 4 – 12 are $65.)
• In honor of Top of the Mark’s 80th anniversary celebrated earlier this year, a Military Package* will continue to be available through Veterans Day weekend and includes a special $8 Top of the Mark Martini served in a classic coup and half priced cheese plate or charcuterie plate (regularly priced at $22 and $24); 20% Veterans Day discount does not apply

Reservations over Veterans Day weekend can be made by emailing Joanna.Carrasco@ihg.com or calling 415-616-6940. *Proof of previous military service is required.

Veterans visiting Top of the Mark are also encouraged to enjoy a shot from the Squadron Bottle, a tradition first started during World War II. Servicemen would buy and leave a bottle in the care of the bartender so the next solider from their squadron could enjoy a free drink; the soldier who finished the bottle had to buy a new one to leave behind. The tradition was revived in 2009 by Lieutenant Mike Hall of the United States Navy. Today, a collection of accompanying journals invites servicemen and veterans to preserve the stories of those who have come through Top of the Mark – whether they were stationed in the Bay Area during WWII or have stopped by to visit during Fleet Week.

As part of Top of the Mark’s mission to capture, preserve and share these stories, active duty soldiers, veterans, friends or family members who cannot make it to Top of the Mark can call or write with their story.  Please call 415-616-6954 or email your story to vetsmh@ihg.com. It is our hope to continue to preserve Top of the Mark’s legacy as a destination for servicemen to honor those who have and who currently serve our nation.

Top of the Mark is located on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins at 999 California Street in San Francisco’s historic Nob Hill neighborhood. Since opening, it has welcomed many celebrities and dignitaries who have come to enjoy its extraordinary views, including Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Prince Edward, Prince Charles, Brad Pitt, and Robin Williams, to name a few. To the people who live here and visitors all over the world, the Top of the Mark is much more than just a bar – it’s a landmark, a tradition and an experience.
